Public Safety Bi-directional amplifiers (BDAs) are a critical component of two-way radio
communication systems, often utilized by first responders in an emergency. BDAs are a communication system located within a building that pulls wireless signals in from the outside, using a signal booster to help amplify the signals.
A Distributed Antenna System (DAS) can then be used to evenly distribute those amplified signals, ensuring that first responders stay connected via wireless communications within a building.
On 9/11, first responders were not able to communicate with each other from within the World Trade Center, resulting in the loss of countless lives. New BDA code requires 99% coverage in critical areas such as elevator lobbies, exit stairs and passageways, emergency command centers and fire pump rooms. 90%-95% coverage will be required in general building areas depending on the city/county where a business is located.
Any multi-story building that has outage areas for public safety radio signals will be required to meet compliance starting in 2022. High-rises, government offices, malls and retail centers, school campuses, parking structures, and transit centers are among some of the types of buildings that will be required to verify compliance.
Mercury Communications can conduct a thorough audit of your building to help determine where the dead zones exist and how best to utilize a Public Safety DAS.
Mercury will develop a customized telecommunications plan to not only ensure your building meets compliance, but also prioritizes the safety of first responders.
